Obituary of Almira Gorman

Please share a memory of Almira to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
GORMAN, Almira Amelia, 98, Gormanville, HantsCounty passed away on Feb. 17, 2013 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro surrounded by her loving family. Born in Noel Road on December 27, 1914, she was the eldest daughter of the late Alfred & Linden (Barron) White. Almira worked hard her entire life - early years spent cooking in lumber camps, and later years running the local post office and general store from her home. She was a founding member of both the Rainbow Community Club and St. Paul's United Church. Almira worked tirelessly for the good of her community and could always be counted on as a volunteer for any community event. She loved playing cards, BINGO, doing crossword puzzles and was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays (and in earlier years her Kennetcook Angels). But, her absolute greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren - all of whom have learned so much from her and will miss her dearly. She is survived by her daughters, Annie (Frederico) Loinaz, Ogdensburg, NY; Alfreda (Marvin) MacPhee, Upper Rawdon; Denise (Bruce) Fletcher, Gormanville; Krista White (Stacey Singer), Gore. She is also survived by brother Stuart Thomas (Jean) and sister Hazel White; sister-in-law Evelyn White; brother-in-law Roderick Johnson; daughter-in-law Juanita, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Almira was predeceased by husband Raymond, son Earlin, infant son Laurie and infant daughter Myra. Also predeceased by granddaughter Lisa; brothers Marsden (Ada); Blois (Erma); Lawrence (Ruth); William and sisters Lalia (Clyde) Harvie; Edna Johnson and Eva (in infancy); brother-in-law Alfred White. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to share their memories of Almira with her family during visitation on Tuesday, Feb. 19th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and a service to celebrate Almira's life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 20th at 11:00 am both in the J.
