George Mason Obituary

George Harold “Buddy” Mason, Age 81, Cambridge. It is with heart felt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bud Mason at the Hants Community Hospital on Saturday September 14th, 2019. Born in Goldenville, Guysborough County, on May 31st, 1938, he was the son of the late George Harold and Mary Amanda ( Macintosh) Mason. Survived by Ardith, his loving wife of 58 years, and family Gary (Dorothy), Jay (Jane), Robin (Joice) and Gayla (Jeff). He will also be lovingly remembered by the next generation Josh, Joey, Mathew, Daniel, Barrett and Marlee. Also, he will be dearly missed by sisters Flora, Violet, and Cathy (Jack) along with his brother Bob (Sheila). Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers Joe and Bill. Bud started working at the age of 15 for Foundation Maritimes.His determination to provide for his family led him to work on tugboats and in mines until he opened Masons Service Station that he owned and operated for 54 years.Bud was also a dedicated volunteer with the Independent Order of Oddfellows in which he rose to the office of Past Grand Master for the Atlantic Provinces.He will also be remembered by any number of people in need of assistance, gas at all hours (day or night), a tow, snowmobile repairs until early hours or just a spot to stop and catch up on the latest news. Special thanks to Northwood Home Care and the nurses at the Hants Community Hospital.Their assistance allowed Dad to spend the past three years home with Mom and helped make his last hours comfortable. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Summerville on Wednesday 7 – 9pm andFuneral Service will be held Thursday, September 19th at 10:30 am in The Grace United Church, Walton reception to follow in the Church Hall with a private family burial to follow at the Pembroke Cemetery.
