Obituary of Ruth Reader
Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Mildred Reader on February 6, 2025, in the Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche NS. Born on November 02, 1934, in Upper Kennetcook, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Miller) O’Toole.
Mom had a great passion for life and made everyone around her feel like the most important person in the world. She loved to walk and on December 20, 1994, she was awarded the first Wardens Walker Recognition award by the Municipality of East Hants. She continued to walk everyday in all types of weather until her health wouldn’t allow it. She loved when friends or strangers would drop in to visit and could always throw together a quick lunch with a cup of tea. Mom loved to read and in later years rekindled her passion for poetry, never missing a local poetry reading. She also loved to garden and during summer months could be found working outside on the lawn or in the gardens.
She is survived by her children, Starla, Michael (Doreen), Nancy (Jack) Howard (Lily) and extended family Shawn White, grandchildren Earl, Stephanie, Ryan, Mariah, Matti and Cianna and great grandchildren Gabriel, Elodie and Beau.
Besides her parents, Ruth is predeceased by her husband Arthur, second husband Artie, granddaughter Brianna, brothers Owen, Dow, Leroy, Roscoe and Arnold and sisters Bessie, Claire and Bertha.
A very special thanks to the staff at Willow Lodge in Tatamagouche who made sure that our mother was looked after with the greatest of care to the very end. They made it much easier for us to say good-bye each time we visited knowing she was among such kind and caring hands.
Cremation has taken place, a graveside committal service will be held on May 9, 2025, at 1pm in the Saint John The Baptist Anglican Church Cemetery, Latties Brook NS, followed by a reception (to be announced at service) between 2 and 4pm, Rev. Glenn Eason officiating.
Donations in memory of Ruth can be made to the Latties Brook Cemetery fund or charity of choice.
