I was so saddened to hear about Roy’s passing. I had the pleasure of knowing him through work years ago and have often thought of him in the years since. I’ll always remember him as one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. He had such a big heart and a gentle spirit that made a lasting impact on everyone around him. I truly appreciated the friendship we shared—he was the kind of person who made your day better just by being there.

Roy is the reason I have the type of company I have today, almost 30 years after we met. He was my guiding light as I navigated the "use of force" world as a young owner. His mantra was "officer safety" in any environment. He was a mentor and a friend who was always there to give advice and help in any way he could. He stayed in touch over all of these years, checking in and always asking how things were going, letting me know that he was there if I needed anything. He was a strong man with a heart of gold. He will be missed. Rest in peace my brother.

My deepest condolences to the family. Roy was an amazing man and I am honored to have gotten to know him during my own training for work. He laughed when I showed him at graduation how my name got spelled wrong and joked “You know, my favorite Disney princess was Ariel” - he made my day. He will be sorely missed.

To the family of the late Roy Kennedy,
I am deeply saddened to hear of Roys sudden passing. I started my career in corrections in 2008 and trained with Roy on numerous occasions. I was 40 years old when I started so a lot of the people I was training with were a lot younger than me, Roy took me under his wing so to speak and always made sure I had good accomadations and felt comfortable in my role. Roy always had a story to tell no matter what the situation, he was entertaining to say the least. The training team will not be the same without him.
Please accept my sincere condolances. Rest easy Roy and I'm sure you will be training the Angels too if given the chance.

I had many interactions with Roy in various roles at Correctional Services. His guidance and expertise around issues related to staff safety was beyond reproach. Most of all Roy was a gentleman who treated others with great respect and cared about people. He often told me how proud he was to be a member of Correctional Services. We were so fortunate to have him as a colleague.
I am so sorry to hear of his passing and send my deepest condolences to his family.

I met Roy on August 10, 2001. Greenwood Air Force Base Sheriff Services Training. I never dreamed he would have the impact on me that he did. One of the most physically capable people I have ever worked with and for a man with a stern face, an extremely approachable friendly man. I got to see him two year ago in Debert as he continued to train corrections. He immediately knew me and I will never forget him or the skills he taught me.

Roy was a great colleague from when I met him over 20 years ago. I worked with him closely as he was a knowledgeable and dedicated trainer, when we were developing our Sheriff and Corrections training programs many years ago. He mentored and brought along so many fine trainers and officers in NS DOJ in this area. He provided advice to us managers and officers alike on best practices and brought his large personality and kindness to the program. He had a genuine interest in each of us and did his absolute best to ensure success of everybody. His impact on us all was significant and he will be missed in his field and as a person. Met him by chance a few months ago and had a great chat about our past endeavors. Very sorry to hear about his passing and wish condolences to his family and colleagues.

Roy was an advocate for me throughout my career on many levels - I won't ever forget his support in challenging times. Roy was a man's man, and a cop's cop. His softer side was less well known. A few years older and a couple of years senior to me, he was a mentor. I would refer to him, only half jokingly, as Dad and he called me Pup. During an extended disciplinary process I went through when I found myself very stressed out he was solidly and consistently a source of much needed support. I'll miss him.
