Obituary of Carol Oakley

Melissa Carol Oakley (nee Anthony), 85, Truro, formerly of Kennetcook, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at Wynn Park Villa, Truro. Born in Kennetcook in 1940, Carol was one of four children of Carl and Catherine (Hennigar) Anthony. In the late 1950s she graduated from NS Normal College to become a teacher. Later she would attend MSVU for her B.A., B.Ed., M.A. While teaching in HRM she also served as secretary and president of the Bedford Lionettes. She was a spiritual person involved in the United Church in both Kennetcook and Bedford. Carol enjoyed dancing, dressing well, hosting large family dinners, imparting her knowledge, travelling in the RV, winter stays in Cape Canaveral, and making specialty cakes for birthdays. Her fur babies were her children which included Mimi (poodle), Brandy (Yorkshire terrier), and finally precious Prince (Shih Tzu). Carol was like a second mother to her extended family who she loved dearly. Carol is survived by sisters Anna Verberk, Donna Lawrence (Lee), and brother Johnny Anthony (Joan). She is also survived by stepchildren Donna-Marie Lacey, Karen Redden (Joseph Ferrie), Terry Redden, Cathy Downey (Randy), and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by husband John Redden and his 14 siblings, husband Ronald Oakley, stepdaughter Rhonda Oakley, step-grandson Jonathan Oakley, and brother-in-law Bep Verberk. The family is very grateful for the kindness, compassion and care shown to Carol by Wynn Park Villa staff over the last year and a half. Cremation has taken place with no visitation as per Carol‘s wishes. If desired, donations can be made to Kennetcook United Church Cemetery Fund. Family flowers only. Carol will be buried with John Redden in the Kennetcook cemetery during a graveside service on July 5, 2025, at 12 noon Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J.
