Marjorie Anne Thompson, age 73, from Selma, passed away peacefully with family by her side July 16, 2025, at the palliative care unit at The Colchester Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Irene (Sanford) and Wallace Densmore.
Marj is survived by her husband Richard and siblings Joanie McDonald and Carmen Densmore; nieces Nancy Goodine (Brian Dalrymple) and Daphne Goodine; stepchildren Denise Thompson (John Dunbar), Richard Thompson (Janice), Christopher Thompson (Kanchana), John Thompson (Johnette), and Allan Mingo (Krissie). One of Marjorie’s greatest joys were her grandchildren: Brooke, Mathew, and Chad Mingo, Tyler Crowe (Kelsey), Ryley Crowe (Jason McRae), Josie Crowe, Darius Thompson, Kalina Thompson, Jessa Thompson, and Colten Thompson as well as the “Greats” Ivy Crowe, Violet Crowe, Sonny Macrae,Hunter Laffin and Hudson Crowe.
In the early years on Noel Shore, Marjorie graduated from Hants North Rural High School. She went on to Atlantic Police Academy in Charlottetown; always a trail blazer, Marjorie was very proud to be one of the first women officer graduates. She worked at McLaughlin’s motel, eventually returning to NS to live, working the front desk at Keddy’s Motor Inn, in Truro. Marjorie became a CCA and worked in many provider roles retiring from “work” after several years with the Mira.
Marj was a worker and over the years could be found in halfway houses, long-term care facilities, private homes, and doing community respite support for others needing a hand until recent times.
Her dedication to community was evident in her efforts to support causes she believed in. She volunteered countless hours over the years for causes too numerous to mention, enjoying her connections with people and friends along the way. This spring Marjorie was acknowledged by the Municipality of East Hants, with a Volunteer Recognition Award and was delighted to be recognized and attend the ceremony.
Marjorie loved dogs and animals and enjoyed the comfort of many beloved pets over the years. Local neighbours can attest to her striding along the 215 walking several dogs and goats on leash: one of many delightful memories of Marjorie.
A fun and out-going person, Marjorie loved to talk, cook, eat and write. She found her passion through many outlets over the years organizing such things as community poetry readings, hosting many socials for family and friends in her home, preparing her annual holiday epistles, enjoying self expression on Facebook and participating in local theatre groups.
She was unapologetically herself in every way; funny, curious, inquisitive and bold. If you were thinking it, Marjorie would likely just say it! She loved people and was always up for an adventure and a road trip. Marjorie cherished drives with her husband, Dick, and any opportunity to galivant with family and friends. A big kid at heart, Marj made her way into our hearts and our lives; made forever better for having known her.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the palliative care unit at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.
