PATTERSON, MABEL LOUISE - Mabel passed away on August 17, 2025 at the age of 94 years.
She resided at Mayflower Meadows in Windsor. Mabel was born on March 14, 1931 to the late Welton and Alice (Mason) McLearn. She was raised in South Rawdon with her nine brothers and sisters. Mabel became a teacher and taught in several communities along the shore, including Selma, Burntcoat, Tennecape and Walton. While teaching in Tennecape she met Lloyd Patterson. They married in 1955 and raised their five children in Tennecape. She continued to teach elementary school until her retirement in 1985. Mabel was dedicated to the Tennecape United Church and served as Elder, Treasurer, Clerk of Session, and other positions in the Walton Pastoral Charge. She did some literacy tutoring, served on the Tennycape Cemetery Committee and generously supported many charities. She loved her family, travel, photography, flower gardening, jigsaw puzzles, horses and Border Collies. She moved to Mayflower Meadows in 2018, where she was in the care of a wonderful and caring staff.
Mabel is survived by her five children: Charles (Christina), Grace (Ward Newhook), Danny (Janet), Richard (Valerie) and Fern (Rupert McLearn). She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Tara Levine, Elizabeth (Dan) Douce, Lacey-Anne Makrai (Alex), Matthew Patterson, Jennifer (Dan) MacEachern, Jake (Raye Anderson) Patterson, Samantha Yeo and Cynthia (Justin) MacKay as well as three step-grandchildren: James McLearn and Raymond and Megan Newhook. She also leaves eight greatgrandchildren: Daphne, Noah and Silas Douce, Lilith Makrai, Dora MacEachern, Luna MacKay and Sophie and Josie Newhook. Mabel was pre-deceased by her husband Burton Lloyd Patterson (1993), brothers Archie (Dot), Lawrence (Donna), Stewart (Doris), Warren, Martin and Eric and sisters Etta (Herman) Parker, Inez (John) MacKinnon and Minnie McLearn as well as son-in-law Kenneth (Fern) Yeo.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 2:30pm at J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, 4646 Hwy 215, Summerville, Hants Co., NS, B0N 2K0, Rev. Alex Mosher officiating. Donations in Mabel’s memory can be made to the Tennycape Cemetery, Mayflower Meadows, or a charity of your choice.
