It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Helen May Lawrence age 85 of Maitland, Hants County, who passed away peacefully at the Colchester Regional Hospital on August 24th, 2025. She was born in Maitland, Nova Scotia on May 14, 1940, Helen was the daughter of the late John and Eudora (O’Brien) Lawrence.
Helen was loved and appreciated by all who knew her. She was a strong independent woman who lived a her life on her own terms and was well known throughout many communities whether it was from her years working at the Municipal Office, as a horse enthusiast, the local Avon representative, quilting with her friends at the New Horizons Hall in Noel, or the sharing of her musical talents whenever there was an opportunity. Over the past 30 years Helen willingly traveled to local care facilities and brought joy and laughter to the residents. She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed the many offices that she held.
Helen is survived by her children Elizabeth White, Rosedale BC, John (Mary) White, Tidnish Head, NS, Mary White, East Noel, NS, Danny White, Sarasota, Florida, Peter (Lisa) White, Lethbridge, AB, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and her brothers Terry (Margie) and William Douglas Lawrence both of Halifax, NS.
She is predeceased by her sisters Lillian Hill and Ruth Main, as well as her brother John Alan Lawrence.
Through the generosity of Troy @ Frieze and Roy General Store there will be celebration of life held at the Mudslide Café Sat August 30th from 2 -4 pm. All are welcome to drop in, share stories of Helen. If people would like to have a few tunes, please feel free to bring instruments.
