Doris Hagmann, 81, of Summerville, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home on December 9, 2025. Doris is one of those people who truly left the world in a better place than when she arrived.

She was born in Olten, Switzerland, and started her career as an architect, paving the way for women as one of Switzerland’s early female architects. Doris was a multinational Swiss champion and Olympic qualifying cross-country skier. She had a love for travelling the world and lived in India, Finland and England in her 20s. She started her family in Switzerland and then moved to Nova Scotia, Canada with her husband Casimir and her 4 girls. They opened the Avon Emporium in Summerville, which soon became a household name for locals and tourists alike because of her famous seafood chowder, brunch buffet and baked goods. After retirement from the Avon Emporium she fulfilled her dreams of more travel, building and enjoying her beautiful garden and spending time with friends and family.

Doris is known for her passion, storytelling, love for nature, hard work, dedication to her community and huge heart. Whether you needed a cup of coffee, a roof over your head or hug, Doris was always ready to help.

Doris is predeceased by her parents Erica and Herman Barth and Husband Casimir Hagmann.

She is survived by her 4 daughters Jenny Best (Dave Best), Corin Hagmann (Adrian Edgecombe), Yolanda Gnӓdinger (Pirmin Gnӓdinger), Stephanie O’Reilly (Gerard O’Reilly) and 5 grandchildren Zachary Best, Jacob Edgecombe, Logan Edgecombe, Priya O’Reilly and Gerard O’Reilly.
