Elizabeth "Liz" Smith Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved mom Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Smith on March 10, 2026, at the age of 77 with her children by her side on unit 500 of Hants Community Hospital.

Survived by children Ronnie (Sheila) of Cambridge, Valerie (Carter) Murphy of Windsor, Wade (Dawn) of Grande Prairie, and Cheryl (Richard) Harvey of Brooklyn. Grandchildren Trenton, Tegra, Adam, Willow, Herman, and Gavin as well as four great grandchildren. Brothers George, Mike, Randy (Pam), Ricky (Karen) and sisters Alice (Bud) Bryan, Janet (Joe) Cox, and Rachel (Stan) Weatherbee. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her father Cecil and dear mother Isabell Starratt. Brothers Ernie, Albert, sister Ada. Sister-in- laws Arlene, Carol, Gloria, and Lee. Nephews Joey and Daniel and niece Annette.

Moms’ biggest joys in life were spending time with her family whether it be picking wild strawberries, May Flowers, on the hunt for Lady Slippers or swimming at her favorite beaches with all of us kids in tow.

Mom always enjoyed her old-time country music and singing. Over the last few years her COPD prevented her from singing as she used to. Her smile beamed as we held many impromptu mini concerts, especially in her final months with everyone singing along. At times she was able to sing her little heart out with us which brought cherished memories for us all.

Mom loved to share her chocolate stash with all of her big kids but especially with her “precious little blonde boy” Weston.

Moms biggest wish was to return home to the shore and be with her mom, we find comfort in knowing that wish was granted so peacefully for her.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Hants Community Hospital unit 200 and especially unit 500 for the love and care they showed our mom over the last eight months.

As per moms wishes cremation has taken place with no visitation. A graveside service will be held at High Head Cemetery at a later date, if you would like to attend please RSVP to Valerie @ (902)792-1347 or Cheryl @ (902) 757-2237 and we will reach out once the date has been decided.

Donations in memory can be made to Hants Community Hospital unit 500 or the Canadian Mental Health Association N.S Division or to High Head Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 215, Summerville; 1-902-633-2431. Please visit our website at https://allenfh.ca/ to sign the guest book or send private condolences.
