Peggy McLellan Obituary

– Peggy Lee (Lunn) McLellan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peggy Lee McLellan, born July 15,1951, who passed away peacefully surrounded by love after a short but courageous battle with cancer on March 12, 2026. Peggy lived a life devoted to caring for others and loving her family with her whole heart.

Peggy is predeceased by her mother, Ora Lunn; her father Ronald Lunn; her beloved son, Corey McLellan; her brother Garnet; her sister Linda; and her sister-in-law Doris.

She leaves behind the light of her life, her granddaughter Alexis McLellan (Josh), who she loved beyond words and who proudly carries forward her legacy. Peggy and Alexis shared a bond that was truly unbreakable. Alexis was not only Peggy’s granddaughter, but her pride, her joy, and her whole world. From the moment Alexis was born, Peggy’s life revolved around her and her son Corey. The three of them shared a special connection filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Peggy never missed an opportunity to remind Alexis that she would always be “Nannie’s little girl.”

Peggy was incredibly proud of her son Corey McLellan, and she spoke of him often and with great admiration. Corey was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she cherished every

moment spent cheering him on at the ball field and supporting him through all of life’s

milestones. The bond between mother and son was one of deep love, respect, and pride. Even after Corey’s passing, Peggy carried his memory with her every single day and continued to honor him through the love and dedication she poured into his daughter, Alexis.

Peggy is also survived by her brothers Chris (Heather) and Terry (Effie), She also leaves behind several other loving grandchildren along with extended family and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.

Peggy began her career at the Hants Shore Clinic, where she worked as a receptionist before following her passion for helping others by becoming a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA). She

worked with Northwood Home Care in Windsor, later providing private home care to those in

need. She then went on to work with the Canadian Red Cross before eventually joining

Northwood in Halifax, where she continued dedicating her time and compassion to caring for others.

Even after retiring, Peggy’s strong work ethic never slowed down. She later took on a position as Superintendent with Compass Realty, where she lived and proudly worked for over 20 years. Peggy took pride in everything she did and was always looking out for others. Even in her final days she was still trying to make phone calls and take care of things until her granddaughter Alexis lovingly had to take her work phone and turn it off so she could finally rest.

Family was the centre of Peggy’s life. One of her greatest joys was being at the ball field, where she could always be found cheering from the stands. She never missed a single game for her son Corey and later for her granddaughter Alexis. Over the years she became known around the field as Scotia Storm’s good luck charm and biggest cheerleader, proudly supporting every inning, every win, and every moment. Peggy also found immense happiness in baking, something she was widely known and loved for. Whether it was a holiday, a ball game, a family gathering, or any special occasion, Peggy would be in the kitchen making sure there was always something homemade to share. Baking was one of the ways she showed her love to others. Her peanut butter balls quickly became a favourite and something everyone looked forward to. If Peggy was attending an event, people knew there would likely be a tray of something delicious coming with her.

Peggy also loved capturing memories. Whether it was family gatherings, ball games, or

everyday moments, she always had her iPad close by to take pictures and document the

memories she never wanted to forget, eventually upgrading to her iPhone but never losing her passion for capturing life’s special moments.

Peggy shared a treasured friendship with her best friend Sue, with whom she faithfully spoke every evening at 7:30 p.m., a routine that became a meaningful part of her day.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible staff at the VG Hospital, especially Olivia, the compassionate nurse who cared for Peggy during her final moments. Olivia showed remarkable kindness and compassion and ensured Peggy’s family was cared for just as Peggy always cared for others. The family would also like to thank Emily from the Continuing Care Team at the VG, whose support and guidance meant so much during such a difficult time.

Peggy will be remembered for her strength, sense of humour, dedication to family, and the

unconditional love she gave so freely to everyone around her. She lived her life putting others first and left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Though her absence leaves a profound emptiness, there is comfort in knowing she is now

reunited with her beloved son Corey, whom she loved deeply and missed every single day.

A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at the Civic Centre at the Brooklyn Fire Hall on Saturday, March 28th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Peggy are welcome to attend and celebrate the wonderful life she lived.

In accordance with Peggy’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Peggy’s love was the kind that never fades. It lives on in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and most of all in the heart of the granddaughter who was her world. And as Peggy always said, Alexis will forever remain what she was from the very beginning, “Nannie’s little girl.”
