Richard "Dick" Thompson Obituary

Richard “Dick” Graham Thompson, 79 of Selma, Passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2026. Born in Colchester England, he was the son of the late James and Nancy (Ayles) Thompson.


Richard is survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Trudy Thompson (Juurlink), brother Jim (Julia) and sisters Mary and Pat. Children Denise (John Dunbar), Richard (Janice), Chris (Kanchana) and John (Johnette). Grandchildren Steffen, Tyler, Ryley, Josie, Darius, Kalina, Jessa and Colten, And many Great-Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.


Richard was pre-deceased by his wife Marjorie (Densmore), brother Chris, brothers-in-law Donald Smith, and Dennis Gallyer.


Richard moved to Canada from England at the age of 21 in 1968 with hopes of owning his own farm. After working several jobs in agriculture, forestry and construction his hopes became reality. In 1977 he and Trudy with 3 small children bought a dairy farm in Noel. The fourth child soon followed.


The dairy cattle went and the beef cattle came and went, but his love for growing crops continued. He operated a mixed operation of a garden center/nursery, row crop vegetables and strawberries until he retired.


Richard enjoyed his last years with Marjorie, spending time visiting family and friends. Forever a farmer always checking on all the local field works.


Funeral service to be held at J Wilson Allen Funeral Home 6571 Hwy 354 Kennetcook, Sunday June 28 at 2 pm. Followed by a reception at the Maitland Fire Hall.


In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SPCA.
