Anne Raye Spearing, 79, of Bramber, passed away peacefully, at home, on July 21, 2026 

surrounded by the love of her family and friends and is now at home in Heaven with her Lord Jesus Christ. Born in Windsor, NS, she was the daughter of the late Mona

(Swinamar) and Carl Smith.

Anne spent her childhood in Three-Mile Plains, NS. After marrying Dave (“Big Bub”) in

1966, life became an adventure. She recently recounted moving 32 times, creating

homes across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Northern Ontario, and New

Brunswick, before finally returning to Nova Scotia to retire by the Bay of Fundy. No

matter where they landed, Anne made it a home. She was an extraordinary cook,

seamstress, quilter, and crafter who could knit or crochet anything she imagined. Her

creations warmed her family, friends, and many others through her donations to the

IWK, the unhoused community, and anyone in need of a warm hat or socks. Gifted in

carpentry and upholstery, she turned each new house into a personal project,

redesigning spaces to ensure her family’s comfort.

Anne took great pride in her garden. In recent years, her grandson Daniel lovingly

tended to her bushes and plants under her watchful eye. The Spearing home was a

place of hospitality; their children brought countless friends’ home over the years for

Anne’s famous homemade pizza, and there was always room for more, including the

many preachers and missionaries from across the world who visited. Anne possessed a

huge heart and a sharp tongue for defending what was right. She gave back deeply to

her community as a foster parent, a respite worker for Children’s Aid, and a caregiver to

seniors. She held a special, protective place in her heart for women and children

escaping domestic violence, frequently opening her home as a safe refuge where they

could find a warm bath, a clean bed, and a full belly.

In her spare time, Anne loved reading, picking berries, yard-Saling, and travelling with

Dave to share the Gospel of Jesus.

She is survived by her husband, David, of Bramber; a 60 year love story, daughters

Kathy (Danny Lemmon) of Dean and Cora (Alvin Cann) of Debert; and son David Junior

(Sabrina Berube) of Edmonton, AB. She is also survived by her brothers, Garth

(Ontario) and Stewart (Penny) of Sackville, NS.

Anne leaves behind a rich legacy through her grandchildren: Jeremy Rector (Truro),

Daniel Rector (Huntre) (Bramber), Adam Rector (Alicia Gault) (Upper Musquodoboit),

Del(Rachel) Spearing (St. John, NB), Killian Wilmot (Millbrook First Nation), Isaiah

Wilmot (Debert), and Connor Wilmot (Millbrook First Nation). She is also remembered by her great-grandchildren: Leona, Irelynn, and Audrey Rector (Amherst); Ryker and Finlay Rector (Debert); and Alyssa Gault, Kalee, and

Zoe Rector (Upper Musquodoboit).

She will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews, including Lynn Burgess

(Steven) of St. Croix, Shelley and Todd Schaefer of Cambridge, and Tanya Lake of

Cambridge, with whom she shared a close bond. Anne also leaves behind her faithful

fur child, Sasha, an ElderDog rescue who stayed by her side every day after her return from the hospital.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Palliative Care Team, especially

Amber, for walking beside them with kindness; to Cindy Moors and the Continuing Care

Team; and to the VON, particularly Peggy. A very special thank you goes to Anne’s

niece, Bev Redden, who provided essential knowledge and comfort through every

stage, we love you.

To the very end of her life, her husband, children and grandchildren, Jeremy and Daniel tended to her every need and want from cold ginger ale, and new birdfeeders she could

see from her hospital bed. Our mum was worth every second and will be missed dearly.

A graveside service will be held Sunday July 26, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the High Head Cemetery on Helen Dill Road in Cambridge, Hants County. Guests are welcome to bring their own chair. Following the service, friends and family are invited to share refreshments and memories at the New Horizons Hall in Bramber.
