Obituary of Helen Meehan

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Meehan, Helen "Rae" (Campbell), 85, of Truro, formerly of Upper Rawdon, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2014 at Cederstone Enhanced Care in Truro, surrounded by her life's greatest joy, her family. It was with her family that Rae spent a lifetime of making and sharing memories. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born on June 23, 1929, Rae's earliest memories, which she was often keen to share, were of growing up in Clarksville with her siblings at the train station and switchboard operated by her parents, the late Reginald Campbell and Edna "Teddy" (Bulmer) Campbell. After a short time in Ontario, she married her husband of 65 years, Winston, and the two returned to Hants County to begin a family at the Meehan farm in Rawdon Gold Mines. As a young mother of two and a farmer's wife, Rae was also an active member in the community and church. She and Winston eventually relocated to the neighbouring community of Upper Rawdon. Rae loved her grandchildren dearly, spending most of her years in Upper Rawdon devoted to them. Rae was a wonderful cook, sharing old family recipes and constantly trying and adjusting new ones. Her attention to detail was manifested in everything she touched, from her lush flower gardens to her beautifully decorated home. Rae, unbeknownst to some, had an adventurous side as well; she loved to travel and treasured special birthday parties with a close group of friends. Rae's family will forever cherish being able to spend recent times with her reminiscing through the lifetime of memories she has created. She will be eternally remembered for the legacy of heritage and the love and support she bestowed upon her family. Rae is survived by her husband, Winston Erwin Meehan; her children, Bernard (Claudia) Meehan and Terry Lynn (Dawson) Lawrence; her grandchildren, Vicki Meehan, Martha (Tom) Collier, Kathleen "Katie" Meehan (Bernard White), Jacquelyn Lawrence, and Devin Lawrence (Kara Logan); her great-grandchildren, Thomas and Josh White, Logan Meehan, Aubrey and Nathan Collier, and Cruz Lawrence; her sisters-in-law, Ada Campbell and Joyce Campbell, and several nieces and nephews. Rae was predeceased by her brothers, Kenneth, Bernard, and Malcolm Campbell; her sister, Joyce Keith; and her great-grandchildren Jackson and James Collier. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A private family graveside committal service will be held at the Rawdon Gold Mines Cemetery, Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating. Donations in memory of Rae may be made to the Rawdon Gold Mines Cemetery, c/o Shirley Nicholl, 2620 Hwy 14, Rawdon Gold Mines, B0N 2N0. Special thanks to the staff of Cedarstone Enhanced Care (Purdy Lane). Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354, Kennetcook, ph-1-902-362-2440 or please visit our web site at www.allenfh.ca to sign the guest book and send private condolences.
