Sympathies go out to the family of Mel. I was with the fire department in Summerville for a long while in the 2000s and Mel was always there to lend a hand, help set up for suppers, man the radio. Just whatever was needed. He did so with a positive attitude and kindness. He was a big part of the community there. Take care Mel's family.

Mel's family, I was deeply saddened to hear of Mel's passing. I met Mel a couple of years ago at Haliburton. He was very kind and a good friend to my mother Anne Sheehy who was there as well. On behalf of Volunteer Services at the Hants Community Hospital and Haliburton Place I want to extend my deepest sympathy to your entire family. Mel was loved by all of us and will be deeply missed. I have had many calls and emails from volunteers indicating how sad they were to hear the news. Many played cards with Mel, shared stories and jokes and all of them said how much they will miss him.
