Obituary of Barbara "Barb" Anderson

Barbara "Barb" Ann Anderson (nee Allen), RN, of Nicholsville, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2015 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, N.S. at the age of sixty. Born on February 13th 1954 in St. Croix, Nova Scotia, Barb was the daughter of the late Earl and Marguerite (Whiting) Allen.Barb is survived by her husband, Laurie; children Tara (Chris) Salsman and Chelsea (Taylor); siblings Diane (Ed) Martin, David (Wanda), Steve (Joy), Gary (Cathy), Kathy Adamo and John; and her precious granddaughter Josslyn.She graduated from Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in 1975 and started a distinguished career in correctional nursing, working at the federal and provincial levels. Barb was an exceptional teacher, and her love of knowledge and research inspired patients, friends and family alike. In 1993 she married her soul mate and best friend Laurie, Supervisor (retired) at the Nova Scotia Youth Facility. Her family will remember her as a fun-loving, hard-working mother who taught them empathy and the value of doing what you love.Barb was accomplished at research and education and often was invited to teach on the subject of infectious diseases. She was a witty woman who loved crosswords, gardening, reading, cheeseburgers and long drives. She was always the best dancer in the room.A visitation will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. in Demont's Family Funeral Home, 419 Albert Street, Windsor and a memorial service will be on Thursday January 29, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the St. Croix United Church, St. Croix, Rev. Krista Anderson officiating, followed by a reception at the Super 8 hotel, Windsor. A private family interment of ashes will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia. The family would like to thank the Victorian Order of Nurses, as well as the nursing staff and doctors Brooks and MacLure at Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their care.
