Meehan, Bertha, age 87, of Truro, formerly of Rawdon Gold Mines, passed away at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro, on March 2, 2015. Born in Shevlin, Manitoba on October 3, 1927, Bertha was a daughter of the late Adam and Natalie Edel. Bertha was a loving and dedicated person to her family, friends, and to her community. She loved to organize many different community, church, and family events. Bertha was a founding member and tireless worker of both Rawdon Gold Mines Recreation and Golden Youth Seniors Group. A craft-minded person, Bertha's hands always had to be busy. There was nothing she wouldn't try to do if it was craft-related. Bertha owned and operated Hillside Craftshop for many years. Although crocheting was her favorite pastime, Bertha also loved gardening and baking. Bertha is survived by her sons, Richard (Debbie) and David (Marlene); her daughter, Cathy (Bruce) Gammon; her grandchildren, Tanya (Chris), Ricky, Olivia, Emily, Adam, Luke, and Brandon; her great-grandchildren, Shalena and Josie; her brother, Richard (Betty), and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Ross; her son, Kevin; and her sisters, Lena and Martha.The family extends their thanks for the wonderful care Bertha received both at home and at Cedarstone. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 7-9pm at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook, followed by a funeral service on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 2pm in the Rawdon Hills United Church, Upper Rawdon, M. Dale Crawford DLM officiating, with a reception to follow at the Rawdon Fire Hall. Following the service, cremation will take place, with interment in the Rawdon Gold Mines Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Bertha may be made to the Rawdon Gold Mines Cemetery,C/O Shirley Nicoll, 2620 Hwy 14, Rawdon Gold Mines, N.S., B0N 2N0 or a charity of one's choice.
