John Uhlan Thomas Obituary

John Uhlan Thomas, age 84, of Cogmagun, passed away on March 28, 2015 at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on October 16, 1930 in Cogmagun, Hants County, he was a son of the late John and Mina (Sanford) Thomas. Uhlan worked in construction in Halifax for several years, and was a custodian for the West Hants School Board for 25 years. He loved music, and played the harmonica, accordion, and fiddle. Uhlan was a dedicated member of the Cogmagun Baptist Church; he also enjoyed nature and being in the woods. Uhlan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie Annette (Galley) Thomas; his daughter, Kathy, and son, Garnet, both of Cogmagun; sister, Edna; sister-in-law, Mary Thomas; brother-in-law, Raymond Peach; and several nieces and nephews. Uhlan was predeceased by a daughter, Colline, in infancy; sisters Ada Burgess, Mary Sanford, Myrtle Langille, Gladys Allen, Pauline Higney, Beatrice Peach, and sisters Shirley and Sharon in infancy; brothers Charles and Norman; and half-brother Arthur. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 2pm in the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Summerville, Rev. Garnet Parker officiating, followed by a private family interment in the Sandy Land Cemetery, Cogmagun. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Uhlan may be made to the Sandy Land Cemetery or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J.
