Obituary of Andrew "Andy" Young

Young, Andrew Quentine "Andy" - 91, of Falmouth formerly of Kempt Shore, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2015 in the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born April 11, 1924 on Tancook Island, NS, he was the youngest child of the late Herbert H. and Viola M. Young. We cannot thank Andy enough as he was a Veteran of WWII and fought overseas to grant us all our freedom. When he returned from the war Andy moved to Montreal to make his living working for the Royal Trust Company. Upon his retirement Andy & Sylvie came back to their native Nova Scotia and took up residence on Kempt Shore. Andy was a wonderful vegetable gardener and supplied many in the community and elsewhere with lovely, fresh vegetables that he had grown. He loved to make his famous Tancook Island Sauerkraut which he shared with many. He was well known for his handyman skills and was always willing to lend a helping hand and spent many hours working on the New Horizons Hall in Bramber where he and Sylvia loved to go to the Thursday night jamborees. Andy is survived by his son, Wayne (Nancy) of Kempt Shore; grandchildren, Valerie (Christopher) Berglund of Seattle, Alexander (Amanda) of Yellowknife, Matthew of Montreal; great-grandchildren, Carter Young and Jackson Berglund. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Sylvia Mabel Young; and his siblings Ronald, Vincent, Marjorie, Roy, Cecil, Carl, Isilda, Gladys and Alice. Cremation has taken place with no visitation or service by his request. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice. A special thank you is sent to the caring staff and physicians of the Windsor Elms Village. Andy was a kind and generous soul and we are all blessed to have had him in our lives. He has left a hole in our hearts and he will be greatly missed.
