Obituary of Edith Gilby

Gilby, Edith Cavell - age 99, of Rawdon Gold Mines, passed away on July 2, 2015 at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with her family by her side. Born in Windsor, N.S. on October 15, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Bertie Madill. Known for her wonderful home cooking, Edith was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a hard worker and an avid community supporter. Edith is survived by her daughter, Shirley Nicoll, and her sons, Laurie and Wendell Gilby, all of Rawdon Gold Mines; her grandchildren, Tanya (Geoff) Sanford, Kelsey Gilby, Jamie Gilby, Ryan Gilby, and Cavelle Gilby; her great-grandchildren, Samantha and Taylor Gilby; and many nieces and nephews. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Wilburn Gilby; her sisters, Maude, Lillian, Peggy, Thelma, and Dorothy; and her brothers, Charles, Sidney, Fred, George, and Albert. Thank you to the VON Services, the Hants Community Hospital medical team, community members, friends, and neighbours for their kindness and care. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 6 from 7-9pm at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook, with a funeral service on Tuesday, July 7 at 2pm in the Rawdon Hills United Church, Upper Rawdon, Rev. Iain MacDonald officiating. Following the service there will be a private family committal at the Rawdon Gold Mines Cemetery and a reception at the Rawdon Gold Mines Community Hall. Family flowers only; donations in memory of Edith may be made to the Rawdon Gold Mines Cemetery, c/o Shirley Nicoll, 2620 Hwy 14, Rawdon Gold Mines, B0N 2N0, or a charity of one's choice.
