John Edwood Redden, age 89, of West Gore, passed away on July 27, 2015 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS. Born in West Gore on March 20, 1926, he was a son of the late Charles and Lilla Mae (Barnaby) Redden. John spent most of his early life in New Ross, and met his wife Muriel in his home community of West Gore, where they were married for more than 60 years. He worked at various lumber mill sites in his early years, with an extended stay at Elmsdale Lumber. In 1961 he went to work for Tidewater Construction Company until his retirement in 1991. John always had a passion for animals and farming, which he also did throughout his working years. He loved camping, card games, and daily driving trips. John is survived by his youngest son, Stephen (Margaret), of West Gore; daughter-in-law Marion, of Cole Harbour; daughter-in-law Ramona, of Halifax; six grandchildren, Terri-Lee (Doug), Troy (Pam), Kimberlea (Clint), Evan (Sue), and Stephanie; six great-grandchildren, Ian, Nicole, Aiden, Emma, Braydon, and Hunter; siblings Marguarette Lennihan, of Mahone Bay, Pauline MacAulay of Berwick, Shirley Levy, of Aylesford, and Kenneth Redden, of Seffernsville; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Munro. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Muriel Gladys (Harvey) Redden; eldest son, James; middle son, Stanton "Timmy"; grandson, Michael; brothers, Raymond, Meryl, Ford, Charles, and Grant; and sisters, Cathline and Annie. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30 from 7-9pm at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook, with a memorial service on Friday, July 31 at 2pm in West Gore Disciple Church, Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating. Following the service there will be a private committal service at West Gore Cemetery. Donations in memory of John may be made to West Gore Disciple Church, 1000 Hwy 202, West Gore, B0N 1P0.
