George Leroy Underwood, age 62, of Five Mile River, passed away on January 21, 2016 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Five Mile River on April 1, 1953, he was a son of Phyllis (MacDonald) (Underwood) Savoy and the late Basil Underwood. George spent much of his life working in the woods, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. George is survived by his companion, Jo-Ann Stewart; his children, Tina, William "Billy", and Alex Underwood, all of British Columbia; stepchildren, Stephen Francis, Shane Stewart, Kelly Stewart, and Shayla Stewart; step-grandchildren, Curtis, Ryan, Dustin, Josh, Sophie, Cameron, Javonna, and Matthew; his mother, Phyllis Savoy; sister, Marlene; brothers, Sam and Kevin; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, George was predeceased by his sisters, Diane Underwood and Carol Brown; sisters-in-law, Beverly and Louise, and brother-in-law Wade. Cremation has taken place with no visitation or service by request. Donations in memory of George may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
