Obituary of Mary Harvie

HARVIE, Mary Elizabeth (O'Brien), age 74, of Gormanville, N.S., passed away on February 7, 2016 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Noel on November 24, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Carlton and Dorothy (Cochrane) O'Brien. Mary graduated as an RN from the Children's Hospital in Halifax in 1963. She worked as a nurse at several locations including Fredericton, Oromocto, Lahr, Germany, and Truro. Mary loved to sing in the Community Choir, at church, and as part of the group Trinity with her husband Victor and sister-in-law Sarah White. She had several hobbies, and loved fishing, reading, and spending the summer at the ball fields watching her grandchildren play ball. Mary is survived by her husband, Victor, Gormanville; daughters, Elizabeth, at home; and Jackie (Carman), Noel Road; son, Victor Dale, Halifax; grandchildren, Dustin, Michael, and Abigale; sisters-in-law Eleanor O'Brien, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Sherri Lynn; her brother, Hugh O'Brien; and her parents-in-law, Ernest and Maggie Harvie. Cremation has taken place; visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10 from 7-9pm with a memorial service on Thursday, February 11 at 2pm, both at J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook, Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating. A reception will take place at the Green Hall, North Noel Road. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only; donations in memory of Mary may be made to the North Noel Road Cemetery Fund, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of one's choice. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors on the 3rd floor of the CEHHC hospital; to Dr. White, Sandra Sullivan and all the staff at the cancer med unit at the VG Site, Halifax; and thank you also to all our family and friends.
