Obituary of Cecil Macumber

MACUMBER - Cecil Roy, age 83, of Bramber, passed away on May 18, 2016 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, lovingly surrounded by family. Born in Bramber on February 24, 1933, he was a son of the late George and Minnie (Morris) Macumber. Cecil was a hard-working man for most of his life and worked many jobs, starting out on farms and in the woods and sawmills. He was on the first pour at Scotia Square, worked building the MacKay Bridge, and helped install the first telephone lines in Hants County. Lastly, he ran his own portable sawmill. Cecil made many friendships during his life and treasured each and every one. He was a fixture at the hockey arena for many years and also bowled and played cards. He had a large and loving family of whom he was very proud. Cecil is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna (Johnston); children, Debra (Merlin) Rines, Greenfield, Hants Co.; Ronald (Jackie Greene), Edson, Alberta; Wendy Lake (Trevor Wile), Drayton Valley, Alberta; Vicki (Garnet) Brown, Bramber; and Ruth Paige (Sid Smith), Stanley; grandchildren, Walter, Becky, Laura, Chelsey, Russell, Dustin, Garrett, Julie, Andrew, Melissa, Stephen, Joshua, Zachary, Devon, Miranda, and Vanessa; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Pat, Windsor; Basil (Annette), Ontario; Rollie (Tina), Alberta; and Stevie, Truro; sisters, Margaret (Emery) McLellan, Scotch Village, and Edie, Truro; stepbrother, James; stepsisters, Grace, Joan, and Ella; his family through marriage; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much. Besides his parents, Cecil was predeceased by his brothers, Ernest and Robert, and sister-in-law, Beatrice. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A celebration of Cecil's life will be held at Kempt United Baptist Church, Summerville on Saturday, May 21 at 2pm, Rev. Garnet Parker officiating, followed by a reception at Summerville Fire Hall. Private family interment at Bramber Cemetery. Family flowers only; in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Cecil may be made to Bramber Cemetery, c/o Mrs. Dawn Barkhouse, R.R.1 Walton, NS B0N 2R0.
