Delbert Lloyd Anthony, age 83, of Princeport. It is with great sadness we announce Delbert's passing on June 9, 2016 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Kennetcook on August 29, 1932, Delbert was the son of the late Roland Lloyd and Lena Mae (Bates) Anthony. In his early years, his favourite pastime was to fish John's Brook, just across the river from his home in Kennetcook , where he was raised by Mary Emma (White) Ettinger and resided until the age of 16. At that time, he moved west and spent a number of years travelling throughout Western Canada until returning to Oshawa, Ontario in 1952 to start his family. Delbert married the late Rosemary Ann (Rosie) Zwicker and together they had four children; Debbie LaPetit of Victoria BC, Steve (Sue) of Oshawa, Ont., Darlene Tandem of Port Perry, Ont., and Jimmy of Bancroft, Ont. During this time, Delbert was employed by General Motors for 30 years; holding a number of positions there. Delbert and Rosie returned to Nova Scotia in 1982 to build a homestead along the Shubenacadie River, where they could each enjoy their favourite hobbies including dancing, darts, and motorcycling. Delbert belonged to the Honda Gold Wing Riders Association of NS. Aside from these activities, Delbert enjoyed the company of his dogs, Sandy and Amos, until their parting and in his later years, his beloved Baby, his cat. Delbert played cards weekly with his close friends, including his special friends, Angela and Dan Sanford, their children, and Bill Rines. Delbert is survived by all of his children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his special friends, and a number of family members, including his sister, Helen (Manford) Carter; his brother-in-law, John Fahey; and Howardine Anthony. Besides his parents, Delbert was predeceased by his wife, Rosie; his brothers, Ralph, John, and Howard; his sister, Thelma; and his sisters-in-law, Grace and Yvette. No visitation by request. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 14 at 3pm at J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook, Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating, with a private burial at Kennetcook Cemetery. Following the service there will be a reception at the Kennetcook Fire Hall.
