Donald Graham Hines, Sr., age 86, of Noel, passed away peacefully in his home on October 26, 2016. The eldest and last surviving of five children, Donald was born on December 9, 1929 to the late Martha (Horton) and Graham Hines. He and his sister Vivienne were born in Cambridge, Mass, USA, before the family came up to Nova Scotia in 1934 and settled back into the area. After finishing high school, Donald joined the RCAF, graduating in 1956 as a fighter pilot and serving some time before retiring and focusing on his family. His interests were reading war history, the Legion, avid birdwatching, his family, nature, painting his beautiful tall ships and building ship models, including one of the W.D. Lawrence. He spent his final working years as a commissionaire. Donald is survived by his five children Donald, Jr., Stephanie, Robert, Patricia and Kate; grandchildren, Sarah, Jennifer, Heather, Andrea, Brianna, Graham, Jordyn, Jensen, Joel, Tabitha, Holly, Jaxon and Jemma; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Graham, Willa, Peyton, Hasani, Dublin and Hudson; and his first wife, Margaret Baxter. Donald was predeceased by his second wife, Mary E. (Crate) Hines in 2012; brother Eric; and sisters Rose (in infancy), Lenora Nixon, and Vivienne Chalmers. No visitation by request. A funeral service will be at J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Kennetcook on Wednesday November 2 at 2pm, Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating, with a reception to follow at the Noel Legion.
