GILBERT - Wayne Alton, age 73, of Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, formerly of Toronto, Ontario, passed away on January 29, 2017 at Dykeland Lodge. Born in Parrsboro on May 5, 1943, he was the son of the late Donald and Dorothy (Chambers) Gilbert. Wayne spent most of his life in Toronto and was one of the first adopters of computer technology in the early 1960's. He worked at various companies and later started his own consulting business. Wayne loved to play golf, curling, and tennis, and was a member of the Toronto Cricket Club for many years. He loved to travel and traveled throughout Europe, Iceland, Korea and Japan; some for pleasure and some for business. He was a member of Hants County Branch 09, RCL in Windsor. Wayne is survived by his former wife Sybolla (Straker, Franje); daughter Deborah (Wolf), Barrie, Ont; son Douglas (Crystal), Vernon, BC; brothers, Conrad (Debbie), Mantua, NS; Terry, Barrie, Ont; Danny, Peterborough, Ont; Bruce, Ottawa, Ont., 5 grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his former wives, Judy (Gerwin) and Brenda (Jorganson); and his sister Patricia. Cremation has taken place with a committal in Parrsboro at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Windsor Legion, 35 Empire Lane, Windsor on February 4 from 2 to 4pm. Another Celebration of Life will be held at the Angus Legion, Angus, Ontario on February 25 from 1 to 4pm. Special thanks to the staff of Dykeland Lodge for their kindness and care.
