Obituary of Margaret Blanche Faulkner
FAULKNER - Margaret Blanche (nee Salter), age 97, of Cheverie, passed away on May 29, 2018 at Haliburton Place, Windsor. Born in Union Corner, Hants County on September 19, 1920 to the late Herbert and May (Murphy) Salter, Margaret was raised on the Salter family farm on Red Bank Road. After completing studies at the NS Normal College in Truro, she went on to make a difference in the lives of generations of children from Cheverie and the surrounding communities, first at the Cheverie School, and later at the Kempt School and Dr. Arthur Hines School in a career spanning four decades. “Mrs. Faulkner” was particularly gifted in helping children face challenges and develop their reading and literacy skills, imparting her infectious love for books. Margaret dearly loved and was sincerely interested in her nieces and nephews and was a good listener and conversationalist. Margaret and Earl enjoyed a diverse network of friends through camping, winters in Florida, Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge. Margaret was an informed and ardent follower of politics. She was a person of faith who rarely missed a Sunday service at Cheverie United Church. An avid reader, Margie was frustrated by visual impairment later in life. Neither macular degeneration nor Alzheimer’s could extinguish her love of family and appreciation of beauty around her. Margaret is survived by her sister, Greta King; sister-in-law, Doris Warner; brother-in-law, Clifford Brison; and three generations of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Earl; infant son, Mark; brothers, Avard Salter and Logan Salter; and sisters Verna Brison and Helen Lunn. Cremation has taken place; visitation will be held on Friday, June 1 from 7-9pm at J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Summerville; with a memorial service on Saturday, June 2 at 11am at Cheverie United Church, Rev. Judith Perry officiating with Rev. Bill Gibson assisting. Private interment at Kempt Shore Church Cemetery. Reception at Summerville Fire Hall following the service.
