Obituary of Charlotte Louise Brison

Please share a memory of Charlotte to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

BRISON - Charlotte Louise (nee︣ Rose), age 93, of Cheverie. It is with deep sadness, but with joy in a life well lived, that we announce Charlotte's passing on Friday November 16, 2018 at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, Nova Scotia. Born in Bridgeport Connecticut on June 20, 1925, she graduated from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in textiles when the university was first researching and inventing synthetic material for the war effort. While at U Conn, she was accepted into the Delta Zeta Sorority, remaining a lifelong member. It was on her first trip to Cheverie in 1946 with her grandfather, Dexter Rose, to see the home of her shipbuilding and seafaring ancestors and to meet her Canadian cousins, that she was introduced to her future husband George F. Brison who romanced her for the next 53 years. City girl Charlotte loved Cheverie and mastered many new skills, quickly embracing country life. It was there she and George built their home, a successful business and raised their family. Charlotte had a lifelong interest in local history and genealogy, conducting and compiling extensive research in these areas. She was a past member of the Hants West Historical Society and the Genealogical Society of Nova Scotia. A thrill of a lifetime for Charlotte came when she got to stay a night at the Rose Clan Castle in Scotland and, being the only Rose resident in the castle, presided over the morning’s formal breakfast.  Charlotte was an active, supportive member of the Cheverie United Church serving over the years on many committees. With a calm disposition and with extraordinary wisdom, she created a loving, warm and inviting home, providing a happy environment for her family and friends who feasted on her famous pies and homemade bread. Her selfless love extended to many family pets, as well as the strays that came to her door. The twinkle in Charlotte’s kind ‘blue eyes’ spoke of the lively, knowing sparkle behind her dignified demeanor. Charlotte is survived by her children: Paul Brison, (Florence), Doreen Bursey (Jeff) Cheverie, Lois Brison-Brown (Paul) Halifax , Gregory Brison (Maxine) Cheverie; her brother, Donald Rose, and sister-in-law Peggy Ann, Monroe CT; Grandchildren, Laura-Jane Ayling, Alice-Dawn Stevens, Jeanette LeBlanc, Andrew Bursey, Lynn Peart, Mark Bursey, Oliver Brown, Meredith Brown, Emma Brown, Elizabeth Sanford, Frederick Brison and Samuel Brison as well as 17 great grandchildren; nephews Rod Rose, Scott Rose and Donald Hernandez in the US; great nephews and cousins across the US and many nephews and nieces here. She was predeceased by her husband George Brison of Cheverie and parents Ralph and Alice (Grippen) Rose, Bridgeport Connecticut. Many thanks to Dr. Williams and to all the devoted, loving staff at the Windsor Elms who became her extended family these last 5 years. Their extraordinary care over the years was exceptional and will not be forgotten. Visitation will take place Tuesday, November 20 from 7-9 at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Summerville, with a  funeral held on Wednesday, November 21 at the Cheverie United Church at 2pm, Rev. Florence Antle-Brison and Rev. Jeff Bursey officiating.
