Obituary of Elsie Blanche Retfalvi
RETFALVI, Elsie Blanche - age 81, passed away at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on December 31, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born Elsie MacKenzie in Nine Mile River on September 9, 1937, she was the only daughter of the late Lester and Nettie MacKenzie. She was the proud mother of five, one daughter and two sets of twin boys. Elsie was an exceptional baker and cook; you knew if you visited Elsie you better be hungry because you were not leaving until she fed you. Her birthday cakes, homemade bread and home-cooked meals were the main ingredients of many family meals spent around the table, and local fundraisers always had goodies prepared by her. She was the matriarch of her family, a firm but gentle hand as she supported all her children and grandchildren in their life’s decisions; she was a true mother bear. Elsie was always up for a good time. She loved a good laugh, and with her quick wit and her pranks she has left us all with many stories and wonderful memories. Left to mourn her are her children, Erika (Daniel Sheehy), Donald (Theresa), David (Natalie), Lojos (Lily), and Laszlo (Jackie); grandchildren, Kirstin and Connor, Dylan and Chantel, Ashley and Kristina, Allison, Kyle and Alex; and Jarret and Daniel; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Carter and Maya Ferriera. Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A memorial service and reception will be held on June 1, 2019 from 2-4pm at the Upper Nine Mile River Community Hall, Kim Curlett officiating. Private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Homemakers, Upper Nine Mile River, NS. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354, Kennetcook, N.S. Ph-902-362-2440 or please visit our website at www.allenfh.ca to sign the guest book or send private condolences.
