Obituary of Marjorie Wood
Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wood, Marjorie Arlene- age 88, of Walton, passed away peacefully on December 26th, 2019 at the Hants Community Hospital surrounded by love. Born in East Walton, on September 3rd, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Myrtle (White) Lake.
Mum worked many years at the Windsor Textile Mill, followed by numerous years of service at the Walton General Store, where she greeted everyone with a warm welcome and no child left without a pocket full of candy. She had a special fondness for all children, especially her grandchildren, and somehow had a way of making each grandchild feel like they were the “favourite”. Following her years of employment, her and Gene enjoyed many years of hobby fishing in the Minas Basin, where they shared many adventures. Friends and family were always welcomed with open arms to Mum’s spotlessly clean home, where your glass was always full, beautiful meals were served and cleared off the table promptly so that everyone could join in a big game of cards. Music provided Mum with endless hours of entertainment and a long list of wonderful friendships. After Dad’s passing, her and her brother Dennis would hit the road every Saturday night to a local community hall and dance until the last song was played. She was so proud of the fact that she could do the “double hop” well into her eighties. When she lost her ability to dance, her and her good friends Margie and Marcie would attend as many as 4 or 5 music jams a week. Sometimes, it was hard to catch her home.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Beverly (Tommy) Parlee and Carol (Terry); son, Stephen (Trudy); grandchildren, David Parlee (Judi); Edward Parlee (Amy); Jami Gillis (Mike); Derrick Wood (Melissa); great-grandchildren; Jack and Emma Parlee, Sandra (Shane), Josie and Brad Parlee; Peyton Gillis, Mitchel Connor and Benjamin Wood; brother-in-law Don (Jean) Wood; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Margie, Burton, Leo and Timmy.
Marjorie was predeceased in 2014 by her husband of 64 years, Eugene Wood. She suffered many losses in her life most notably, her baby boy, Gary, twins at birth, Calvin and Kevin and infant son, Baby Wood. She was the last surviving member of her family. Marjorie was also predeceased by her brothers, Avery Blenkhorn, Samuel, Chester, Basil, Melvin and Marsden; sisters, Evelyn, Marlene and Phyllis.
We would like to say a special thank you to all the musicians and community volunteers at the local music jams and Centre Burlington Drop-in for putting a smile on her face, a tap in her toes and warmth in her big heart. Your kindness and talent enriched her final years beyond measure. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors who took such great care of Mum, and us at the Hants Community Hospital.
Cremation has taken place with no visitation or service by request. A private family committal service will be held at a later date in the Grace United Church Cemetery Walton. In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to the Centre Burlington Hall or charity of choice.
