Stevens, Glen
75, East Gore, passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2013. Born in Glace Bay he was a son of the late George and Mary (MacPherson) Stevens. Glen's love of aviation began at the age of 4 when he would often be found at the Glace Bay Airport. He obtained his pilot's licence at the age of 16 from the Yarmouth Flying Club.
From 1956-1963 he was a Leading Aircraftsman in the Royal Canadian Air Force working in Italy & Germany. Following this, he flew as a bush pilot out of Yellowknife, NWT for a year flying a Turbo Beaver.
With the help of his family he followed his dream to build his own airport on the Courthouse Hill in Hants County while being employed for 27 years as an aircraft engineer at Air Canada. Glen always had an adventurous spirit, often travelling to Europe, the Caribbean & North America over the years with his family.
He is survived by Doreen, his wife of 46 years; daughters, Arleen (Lloyd Nauss), Mahone Bay & Dawn, Calgary & son Derek (Jennifer) Eastern Passage, grandchildren Owen & Elsa Nauss, Martina Stevens & brother Fred, Brampton.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Gerald & sister Denise.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society of N.S. Cremation has taken place with no visitation or service by request. A private interment will be held at a later date.
