Obituary of Glen Burgess
Please share a memory of Glen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with immense sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Glendon Conway Burgess in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor with his family by his side on September 17, 2020. Born in Walton on November 29, 1927 to the late Lewis and Kathleen (Lake) Burgess. Glen graduated from the one-room schoolhouse in Walton and immediately shipped out on a gypsum boat for the next year of his life.
After returning from his seafaring adventures up and down the east coast, Glen enrolled in the Windsor School of Business to study bookkeeping. After graduation, he again left Walton and headed off to Toronto to work for Holt Renfrew from 1949-51. He later returned to Walton and worked in the office at the barite mine for several years until finishing out his career working in Halifax in the automotive parts industry.
Glen was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always had a tale to tell and good things to say about everyone he met. Burdened with poor eyesight since he was young, Glen lost his loving wife in 2001, yet he persevered and with the help of family, friends, and neighbors he remained in his own home in Walton for an additional ten years. Since then he became one of the longest residing seniors in Dykeland Lodge cared for and loved by staff and residents alike.
He is survived by son Kevin (Nancy), grandchildren Joe and Rachel (Michael), brother in-law Burton Sanford, sister in-laws Marcia (Allen), Carolyn and Heather as well as many nieces and nephew.
He was predeceased by wife Sharon (Smith), sisters Rhona (Les) and Leah, brother in-laws David, Brian and Philip and sister in-laws Linda and Carol.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Dykeland and Dr. Wile for their compassionate care over the last years of Glen’s life.
