Obituary of Elizabeth White

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
WHITE, Elizabeth "Betty" With profound sadness the family of Elizabeth M. "Betty" White of Dartmouth, and formerly Noel, announces her passing on June 15, 2013 in Halifax after a sudden but tremendously courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 14, 1943 Betty was the eldest child of the late Hollis and Nina (Hennigar) Blackburn; loving and devoted wife of William "Bill", and a lifelong mom to her cherished children Randy (Dartmouth) and Karen (Edmonton). Grandchildren Kelcie and Callum provided Gramma immeasurable joy and pride and she was blessed to see them transform from delightful young children to upstanding young adults. Betty also treasured her 'chosen' grandsons Dylan and Carter Ostrowski of Edmonton. Betty deeply loved her surviving siblings Linda Sockett (Barry), Donna Cowie, Claire Stewart (Steve Malone) and Donald Blackburn (Elaine). She will also be missed by sister-in-laws Gerry (Andrew) Smith and Mary White, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as countless friends, neighbours, and business associates she and Bill cultivated relationships with throughout the years. Betty and Bill grew up in Noel and Kennetcook, HantsCounty and maintained close ties to both communities despite moving to Halifax in 1960. In 1973 they made their home in Dartmouth where they raised their family and became highly respected members of the tight-knit Woodlawn community. As a testament to the reach of Betty's friendships over the years we invite anyone who would like to pay their respects to join our family at any or all of the following: Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM on Tuesday June 25th in the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354, Kennetcook, Hants County. A public graveside committal service will take place at the Kennetcook Cemetery on Wednesday June 26th at 2:00 PM Rev Angus R. MacDonald officiating followed by a reception in the Kennetcook Fire Hall. And on Wednesday July 3rd a Celebration of Life will be held at the Banook Canoe Club in Dartmouth from 5:00 - 9:00 PM. Our family wants to express our gratitude to Dr. Robyn MacFarlane of the Nova ScotiaCancerCenter, and the dedicated staff of ward 8A and the palliative care team at the Victoria General Hospital. In addition to exceptional medical care, the immense compassion and comfort provided Betty and our family throughout this brief but extremely difficult journey will always be remembered and appreciated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church or cemetery funds of any of the four communities of Noel, North Noel Road, Noel Road, or Kennetcook; or any charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354, Kennetcook, ph-1-902-362-2440 or please visit our web site at www.allenfh.ca to sign the guest book or send private condolences.
