Obituary of Karen Auby (Wilcox)

Auby (Wilcox), Karen Sandra - 72 of Mount Uniacke formerly of Walton, it is with great sadness the family of Karen announces her passing on February 7, 2023, in the QEII, Halifax, after a brief illness. Born on January 17, 1951, she was the youngest child of the late Percy & Leora (Burgess) Wilcox.
Affectionately known as “Miss Karen” she spent 35 years at St. Paul’s Nursery School helping begin the education of multiple generations of Mount Uniacke children.
Karen was a fixture at the St. Paul’s United Church for decades and an active member of the UCW. No church supper or fundraiser was complete without her rolls, pies, squares, and fudge. Karen lived to serve - she volunteered with multiple school and community organizations. She instilled this strong sense of community and giving to her family. Karen’s hobbies included ceramics, baking, decorating wedding cakes and 7am shopping trips to the Sears Bargain Center with her friends.
Karen is survived by her daughter Shannon (Tom), son Dana (Tammy), brother Allan (Barbara), many nieces and nephews - including special great niece and nephew Matthew and Maddison, Tom’s children; Alex (Alisha) and Stephen (Olivia)
Karen’s heart was broken in November of 2021 when she lost her husband David of 48 years, and she grieved his loss deeply. She was also predeceased by her sister; Doreen Sexton.
A service will be held in the Mount Uniacke Fire Hall at 11:00am on Saturday February 11, 2023. Rev. Lori Crocker officiating. Reception to follow in the Fire Hall. A private Family Burial will follow the Service in the St. Paul’s United Church Cemetery Mt. Uniacke.
