Obituary of Sonya Wilson

Wilson, Sonya Jean – 50 of Garlands Crossing, passed away on April 26th, 2023, at the VG Palliative Care unit with her devoted, loving companion Mark by her side. Born in Windsor NS on August 21, 1972, she was the daughter to Barry Wilson and the late Carol White. Sonya loved working with her Dad Barry at Minas View Golf Links as well as her frequent visits with "Mother". Sonya also had a real knack for creativity and organization which led her to excel in her position at the West Gore playschool for several years. She then went on to further her education and took a medical administration course. No matter where Sonya was, be work, hospital, or community, she made friends along the way. With her caring compassionate and thoughtful personality came a quick wit and funny sense of humour. She has shown everyone what true strength, determination, and courage looks like and has surpassed doctors’ expectations over and over throughout the years. Sonya loved her family and friends dearly, but no one could hold a candle to her daughter Brianne who she loved beyond words and was so proud of. Sonya has left behind common law spouse Mark Porter, daughter Brianne Burns, Stepdaughter Katelyn Porter, step grandchildren Thatcher, Emmett, and Finley Houston, Father Barry Wilson, Sisters Margie (Mark) Hennigar, Krista White, Jodi Wilson, and stepfather Bill White. Besides her mother, Sonya is predeceased by Stepmother Lynn Wilson, Grandmother Carmen Wilson, and Stepdaughter Melissa Houston. Our hearts are at ease knowing Sonya will be reunited with her mom, her best friend. A Private Graveside Committal Service will be held in memory of Sonya in August 2023, in High Head Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at her Father Barry Wilson’s house in Cambridge. Donations in memory of Sonya can be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation – kidney.ca.
