GOODINE, Ralph David Jr. - 76 of Upper Kennetcook, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2023. Born on December 5, 1946, Ralph was the eldest son of Ralph and Minnie (Murphy) Goodine of Plaster Rock, NB.

Ralph, a natural adventurer who wanted to see the world, joined the Royal Canadian Navy at age 16 serving on the Bonaventure and New Waterford, among other ships. Upon leaving the service, he became a nickel miner in Manitoba for a few years before returning to Nova Scotia. He spent the remainder of his career driving truck, priding himself on his old-fashioned work ethic; he ensured his driving expertise was passed on to his children because “No daughter of mine is going to drive like a woman!”

Ralph was a charter member of the Hants North Legion Branch 166, where he enjoyed socializing with friends and sharing stories. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, often accompanied by a faithful canine companion. A perfect day included finding a patch of fiddleheads and preparing a traditional supper.

Ralph is survived by his beloved dog, Hobo, spouse Brenda (White) Hutton; daughters Nancy Goodine (Brian Dalrymple) NS, Daphne Goodine (David Connors) NS, Melissa (Matt) Armstrong, NB, and Jacqueline Hutton, AB; grandchildren Victoria Armstrong, Cody Connors, Kaylie Fisher, Samara Gaudet; sister Carolyn (Rex) Brown, NB; brother Russell, BC; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Ralph was a larger-than-life presence who impacted many people. He was stubborn and obstinate until the end, leaving this world on his terms – as always, it was “his way or the highway.”

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday Aug 17/23 from 7-9 pm in the Hants North Legion #166, 8706 hwy 354, Noel NS. A Private Family Burial will take place at a later date.
