I was so very sad to hear of Meredith's passing. Meredith played a huge role in my childhood. She was the first person to introduce herself to me when I started at a new school in 5th grade and we were friends immediately. I have such fond memories of her-play dates, sharing our love of dance and music, studying together, helping each other when times got tough and visits to Cheverie where she'd make me the famous peanut butter and fluff sandwich and we'd eat rhubarb in the back garden. She was truly one of a kid, a steadfast friend, and someone who always had your back, no matter what.

Meredith joined our OT friend group the Winter Semester of our first year, turning our group of three to four. My favourite memories of that semester were Fridays, when after practicing for our clinical simulations we would walk over to the main part of campus for lunch. During one of those lunches the table had various St.Patrick’s day hats to wear. Meredith selected a pair of green antlers and did not hesitate to place them on her head. We all shared a good laugh that day. Meredith’s sense of humour was one of her qualities I loved the most about her.
In addition to her sense of humour, Meredith was very patient and kind. She did not hesitate to put her work aside if a friend was struggling to complete their work and offer them her support. Whether we were reading our assignments or practicing our clinical skills Meredith’s undivided attention and thoughtfulness were evident in the feedback she would provide. Meredith’s kindness extended beyond the realm of school and even included the culinary arts. With Easter right around the corner, Meredith showed up to class one day with homemade easter bunny cookies making our Research Methods class just a little bit sweeter.
Although Meredith is enjoying her heavenly reward, her presence within our close knit friend group will be forever missed.

In all truthfulness, it took me some time to find the right words to express the profound impact Meredith had on my life. Nothing I could say would even begin to do it justice. I had the privilege of meeting Meredith through our chosen careers. While I’ve only known her for a short amount of time, I feel as though her impact translates to a lifetime of knowing each other. Even in our first conversations, her compassion, kindness, and empathy shined through. From there on we became friends quite quickly and thus had the privilege of navigating not only OT school together, but life. Mere was the most thoughtful, kind, and supportive friend who didn’t hesitate to fight for what she believed in. While her kindness was evident in every moment we shared, one in particular stands out. I had been walking home from campus when I noticed a bird laying on the ground. Me, having little to no experience with wildlife, immediately thought of Mere. With just a quick phone call, she was already on her way. She didn’t hesitate to rush toward the bird and carefully bring it home with her. Since learning of her passing, I find myself thinking of that moment often. How eager she was to help, how understanding she was even though I had just spammed her phone, but most of all I think of how caring she was. I feel truly blessed to have had Meredith in my life, even if it were for only a short period of time.
Mere, I wish so badly that we had more time together. You are so missed and so loved my friend. Rest easy, Mere.

I had the pleasure of presenting Meredith with this award at the End of Program celebration at the Dalhousie School of Occupational Therapy (OT) last month. I also worked closely with Meredith during her first full-time OT fieldwork placement in May-June 2023.
Meredith was gentle, supportive, intelligent, and kind.

I have never met Meredith. I only found out about her passing from IG because I follow Hope for Wildlife.
The fact she loved and dedicated much of her life to animals in need make her a very special person. I had the pleasure of working with Meredith during our first Occupational Therapy placement back in 2023. As our peers know, the first placements are often the most intimidating – feeling like small fish in a big pond. During these two months, it was easy to see how genuine Meredith’s heart was. After the tiring days of this placement Meredith would dedicate her spare time to volunteer at the Hope for Wildlife, which truly speaks to her empathy and passion to help. Through stressful and scary moments as a baby OT student we would laugh and listen to her stories about fostering wildlife in her own home. It was an honour to get to know and work alongside Meredith during our program. She was compassionate, brave and truly embodied the spirit of OT. A fond memory we shared was doing our very first simulated patient encounter together. We were both so nervous, but when we got into the room, Meredith fell into the role of the OT seamlessly and displayed such an insightful and empathetic client interaction. It was then I knew she was going to leave a lasting impact on those she met. And she did. Through her passion for advocacy and thoughtful approach to problem solving, Meredith taught us all so much and showed us the true meaning of strength. She will be deeply missed. Meredith was remarkable. I am shocked and dismayed... what a deep loss. Meredith was among the very brightest students I have ever taught. A short while into meeting Meredith, I was able to witness the light that she brings into the spaces she enters. Although our relationship started with me as a teacher, the roles quickly reversed in the many discussions we shared between classes. A fierce advocate, she did all she did in love. And as difficult and challenging as life and the program could be, she always found a way to share in the still small shifts as well as the and large impactful movements in her work. None of what I write will come as a surprise to anyone blessed enough to share a moment with her. Instead l share these words in celebration of all the ways Meredith has, and continues to move and shape the world we are in.
