Edna Mae Hazel - 93, Magnolia Nursing Home, Enfield, NS, formerly of Walton, NS, passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a brief illness at the QEII Halifax Infirmary on February 19, 2014. Born in Upper Kennetcook on September 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruby (Miller) Garland. Edna worked at Kings Edgehill and then moved to Peterborough, Ontario during the war to work at West Clock. She was a member of St. Matthews Anglican Church and Guild in Walton and a former member of Eleanor Rebekah Lodge. Edna is survived by her son Dale (Susan) Hazel, Salmo, BC; daughters Penny (John) Reynolds, Elmsdale, Jackie (Lloyd) Anthony, Kempt Shore and Trudy (Stephen) Wood, Upper Sackville; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and sister Sylvia Nicholson, Dartmouth, NS. Edna was predeceased by her husband of 38 years in 1982, Murlton (Chub) Hazel; brothers, Sidney and Harry Garland and sister Lucy Thomlinson. Cremation has taken place with visitation Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2-4 at the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, 4646 Hwy 215 Summerville. A celebration of Edna's life will be held at the St. James Anglican Church, Brooklyn, Hants Co. on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 2pm, Rev. E. E. Hill officiating with a private family interment at Grace United Church Cemetery, Walton. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Walton Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edna can be made to the Grace United Church Cemetery Fund in Walton, c/o Mrs. Lorna Burbidge, 9 Shore Rd. Walton, NS B0N 2R0 or to The Magnolia Nursing Home, 416 Hwy 2, Enfield, NS B2T 1E1 .
