Dear Dr. Vair, You might remember me from the time I was in the hospital. It was a happy coincidence for me. I always wanted to meet you and Mary. Dr. Charlie and I were first cousins but I did not met him until a few summers ago. I passed through Cheverie and he was out racking the leaves. I stopped to say hello and he invited me into the house. Over the mantel was the photo of the Hagarty family, the same that I remember seeing in our living room at home. I so enjoyed our visit and regret we had not met sooner. My father talked so lovingly about his sister and even called me after her. I am sure you also have great memories of visits to Cheverie. Please accept my sympathy on the passing of your uncle. Sincerely, Marguerite

I have so many great memories of Dr. Charlie. Both he and his father, Dr. Arthur, were thought of as members of every family along The Shore. I remember him doing house calls at night after the last drive-in patient left his office. For those waiting for a home visit, the sight of that big black Ford pulling in was a huge relief. We knew we were in good hands. They don't make doctors like him anymore. He took great care of us. My condolences to his family.

My sincere Condolences to Dr. Charlie's Family on his passing. I was 7 yrs old when he came to our house one night with a huge black bag. I was sent to our neighbours and when I returned there was a new baby - her name was Coleene and I knew he brought her in that bag . He often said over the yrs to my Mom - how old is Coleene now? - cause thats how long I have been doctoring..When you saw him in his car he always had his big black Newfoundland Dog which was gorgeous. Dr. Charlie gave his life to all us people who lived on the shore- you could count on him day or night . It is a pleasure to be able to say you knew him . Thank You to his Famiy . Dear Brock and family, my condolences to you and your family on the recent passing of your uncle, "Dr. Charlie." He was a wonderful soul and he has left a lasting legacy on anyone who had the honour of visiting him at his practice in Cheverie. I always looked forward to swinging on the swings while waiting to see him in the big circle driveway. He was a true country doctor.... he even pierced my ears! Take care and hold all of his memories close. Brenda

HI Bock and Cathy Sorry to hear about Charlie. I called Sadie the other day but her phone was disconnected, so had not heard how he was doing for sometime. I used to have long visits with him when I got back to NS. Enjoyed his stories of the early days of medicine and he always helped me with the family history particularly about my grandmother Ervin who was Uncle Arthur's sister. We used to eat Tim Bits when we got together. I introduced him to Sandy's family and they still talk about him. Heather was going to be a doctor. She loved his office. She went into theatre instead. Cathy I have friends in Cold Lake, Paul and Marlene Walfall at the United Church. I might get over your way before I leave Alberta for Penticton BC. Can you send your contact info to me. Brock I met one of your students in the neurology department in Red Deer a few years ago. I live with MS an Asian variant in the c4,5,6. Doing okay. I am still able to travel. He was a real special guy and I so enjoyed our chats. I will miss our visits when I go back to NS. Take care and be well. Linda

Dr. Charlie was a one-of. He always had time for every patient and every person.I have fond memories of waiting in the car to see him, never needing an appointment, playing on the railings and the big tree in his yard with the other kids who couldn't sit still in their cars. I can see him looking out the window of his office as he was figuring out your issues. The pictures on his wall. The shelves and shelves of medicine, and the suckers. I was never scared of him, the way some kids are of Doctors. He never turned people away. And when you needed him to come to your home, he always came. He was a HERO to everyone on the shore.
