Obituary of Charles Hines

HINES - Dr. Charles "Dr. Charlie" Henry, age 92, of Halifax, formerly of Cheverie, passed away on April 7, 2015 at Arborstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born on May 9, 1922, he was a son of the late Dr. Arthur and Florence (Hagarty) Hines. Dr. Charlie Hines was the consummate rural family doctor. He was, at different times, a surgeon, an obstetrician, and a dentist, but was always a professional, a gentleman and a friend to the numerous patients and families that he cared for. Seemingly unaware of the number of cars that waited patiently in the driveway that surrounded the big tree outside of his house, he attended to everyone without concern for the time of day or his personal needs. Like his father before him, he will always be remembered as a quiet and caring man, who set a new standard in providing medical care to the always grateful patients within the communities along the shore. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Dr. Charlie is survived by his nephew, Dr. Brock (Diane) Vair, of Halifax; and niece Cathy (David) Gardner, of Cold Lake, Alberta. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Florence Hines and Mary Vair, and his brother-in-law Dr. C. Donald Vair. Cremation has taken place, with no visitation or service by request. A private family committal will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Dr. Charlie may be made to the Hants Shore Community Health Centre, Cheverie United Church or charity of choice.
