Allen, Blaine James-67of Cheverie, Hants Co. It is with much sadness we announce his passing on June 16, 2024, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on March 24, 1957, in the Payzant Memorial Hospital, Windsor, N.S. He was the beloved son of the late Dennis Watson and Amy Gertrude (Dodge) Allen. Blaine loved people and would talk to every stranger he met, whether it was at the supermarket or anywhere at all He was very proud to have worked for Nova Scotia Transportation & Infrastructure as a heavy-duty mechanic, boom truck operator and often made repairs to Provincial Ferries during his 31 years of service, retiring April 30, 2013. He was recognized for his outstanding contribution and efforts during the emergency response following September 11, 2001, U.S. tragedy. Not only that, he was also recognized for his generous and compassionate thoughtfulness and assistance following the crash of Swissair Flight 111of Sept. 2, 1998. His tireless efforts and dedication will never be forgotten by those touched by this terrible event. After his retirement, he was very proud of his little market stand at the end of his driveway. The new potatoes he grew were always looked forward to by the people on the shore. He also would supple fresh onions, carrots, squash, strawberries and valley corn. It was something he always looked forward to. As sick as he was, he managed to plant his last season of new potatoes this past May, with the help from good friends. He also enjoyed bass fishing with his buddies John and Steve. Blaine is survived by his wife of 42 years Carolyn (Gavel), son Dennis of Amherst, daughter Ashley (Ryan) Edmonton, granddaughters Marissa and Olivia, Amherst. The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the Doctors and Nurses shown to Blaine while at the Valley Regional. Their love and care will never be forgotten.
